Roughly how big, and where. A hole the size of a doorknob in a hallway is a different job from a two-foot section of ceiling. Where it sits in the room matters too — a wall lit by a window all day is less forgiving than an interior wall.
What the texture is. Smooth, orange peel, knockdown, or popcorn. If you do not know, a photo answers it instantly.
Roughly how old the house is. This matters more than people expect. Older homes carry hand-applied textures that need reading rather than spraying, and popcorn from before the early 1980s needs testing before anyone touches it.
Whether anything above it has ever leaked. For any stain, the history is the whole story. A stain that has not changed size in a year is a dead source and we can move immediately. One that grew after the last rain is live, and you need a plumber or a roofer before you need us.

Shoot the texture at an angle. Straight-on flattens it. A shallow angle, with light raking across the surface, shows whether it is orange peel, knockdown or hand-applied, and roughly how coarse.
For a stain, get the whole thing. The shape and the edge tell us a great deal — a crisp outer ring usually means the water came, spread, and stopped, while concentric rings mean it happened more than once, which means the source may still be live.
If it is a list, one photo each. Multiple repairs in one visit cost barely more than one, because the coats dry in parallel. That is the cheapest way to use us and almost nobody thinks of it.
And if the photo does not settle it — widespread cracking, a texture that genuinely has to be read in person, water damage where the source is unclear — we will say so and offer to come out. That visit is the $100 one, and it comes back to you when you book.
