This is the most common thing we re-do in Allen, so it is worth explaining properly.
What people do is entirely reasonable: buy compound, push it into the crack, sand it flat, paint. It looks perfect the day it is done. Then somewhere between four months and a year later there is a hairline running exactly where the old one was.
The reason is that you filled a joint, not a hole. A crack is two pieces of drywall with a gap between them that opens and closes as the house moves through the seasons. Compound is brittle. Put brittle material into a gap that is going to open again and it splits — and it splits along the line of least resistance, which is exactly where the old crack was.
What actually holds is tape. Tape spans the gap and ties the two sides together so they move as one piece instead of two. The crack gets cut open into a V first, because a hairline has nothing for tape to bed into. Then tape, then compound in thin coats feathered wide, then texture.
Done that way it survives the seasonal cycle. Filled, it does not. That is the entire difference, and it is why a proper crack repair costs more than a tube of compound and always will.

Two things are happening at once. First, the framing lumber is still drying out — new wood carries moisture, it loses it over the first years, and as it shrinks the drywall attached to it has to give somewhere. Second, the slab is finding its equilibrium on clay soil that expands and contracts seasonally.
Those stack, which is why the cracks tend to show up early and then quiet down. You are watching a house settle into its rhythm, not fail.
